lil' sheep cakes!

I had seen these precious sheep cupcakes floating around the internet and just this weekend I had the opportunity to make them for someone's birthday!
(who happened to have an affinity for the ovines of the world)

Here's what you need:
Cupcakes + white icing (I used whipped vanilla)
Marshmellow fondant (recipe)
Black food coloring (I used Wilton)
Mini marshmellows
White sprinkle balls

Bake up your favorite cupcake recipe....

Then take your marshmellow fondant (mine is pink b/c I had left over colored fondant from another project) and add a generous amount of food coloring.

With a powdered sugar dusted work surface and dusty fingers, knead the fondant until all the color is mixed in. Add powdered sugar if the fondant sticks to you or the table top/waxed paper.

...ta da.. *it is possible even if you have to work it for a while*

Using your fingers and modeling skills, form the shape of your sheep head.

Using clean kitchen scissors, cut some of the marshmellows in half. The varying sizes of the marshmellows on the cupcakes give dimension to these little guys.

Stick your head and marshmellows on the cupcake. Add your white sprinkles for eyes.

And there you have it... Little Bo Peep would be proud!

Sew. Sweet.

  1. These are super cute! The mascot of my college sorority was a lamb, so these would be great to make for reunions!
